Is affiliate marketing with clickbank real?
Monday, May 31st, 2010I am willing to do whatever it takes to make an income, I am imprisoned at home with a baby and an abusive husband, there is absolutely no way I can go out to work right now, the only thing I have access on is a computer. Is affiliate marketing real? Should I spend time on it?
Hey Tiger,
Sorry to hear about your abusive husband and current situation. I myself am imprisoned (in a different way) – can’t find "normal" 9 to 5 work, and was turned onto internet marketing years ago.
Like you, I first thought it was a scam and too good to be true. That’s because of all the hype that these marketers do…$1,000 in 24/hrs! How I made $1,267,313 in one year from affiliate marketing on Clickbank!
Certainly, those things DO happen, but they are not typical and cannot be expected. So you need to first sort reality from fantasy.
Here’s the fantasy: Work just a couple hours a day, clicking a few buttons, and within one week, you’ll have reach job-quitting status income.
Here’s reality: affiliate marketing and Clickbank ARE REAL, but it’s not a get rich quick scheme. You have to pour in hours of work each day, especially as a beginner when you’re first learning it. It took me almost 3 months to make my first few sales. I probably worked 200+ hours to make those first few sales ($150 total). But I was new, and didn’t know what I was doing.
Is 200 hrs worth $150? Of course not, but that wasn’t what I gained out of it. I gained the experience and knowledge, so my next sites would be 100x easier and faster, and even more profitable.
So let me explain how affiliate marketing and Clickbank work for real.
Clickbank is an affiliate network, where people who have created their own products to sell submit their product (called an offer) to the network. Then affiliates search through all the available offers on Clickbank, choose one they like and seems promising. They go out and promote the chosen product via websites, ads, etc. and if someone buys the product through the affiliate’s link/site, the affiliate will earn a commission, a cut of the total sale price.
Different products/vendors offer different commission rates, up to 75%. So if you sell a product for $100, you can make anywhere from $50-75. Well, Clickbank also takes a small percentage fee too, so maybe a little less than that.
The hard work comes from learning how to promote these products well. If you’re not careful, you can lose a lot of money. Many beginners are scared to invest money upfront, so they go the free route of SEO (search engine optimization), the art of getting your website to show up in the first page of Google when someone searches for a term (called a keyword).
There are many other methods of promotion, each with their pros and cons.
This blog post explains what those various methods are, including the pros and cons of each:

Again, I’ll repeat, affiliate marketing IS NOT easy get rich quick. But it IS convenient and anyone can do it from home with an internet connection. It takes dedication, but the rewards are tremendous: freedom of finances, freedom of time (after you’ve learned to automate the workflow), freedom from stress.
